"Between Two Worlds"
41" x 44" oil on panel
This painting stays true to my original thought processes of rediscovering historically significant artists and then rethinking and manipulating the image. I purposely change it's meaning until it evolves into my own unique vision. Here we see an image by Leigh that is repackaged and presented into an almost other worldly dream. Both figures seem less anchored to the ground than they are to the ether.
The cowboy can be seen to be grasping at a mirage or a memory from the past that offers some fleeting comfort in his distress. Both figures are literally caught floating between heaven and hell in a struggle that has spiraled out of their control. Although there is no hint of modernity here, the struggle is not only timeless but easily relatable to our own contemporary lives.
My Palette
An artist's palette speaks volumes about a painter and the painting process. On the reverse of this painting you will discover a clear Mylar sheet which was actually used as my palette for this painting.
I have never laid out my colors in an orderly fashion as most other painters do. Instead, I've always enjoyed the beauty and excitement of placing my colors in an unpredictable and spontaneous fashion.
