"CM Russell in 3D"
15" x 30" oil on canvas
Completed in 2023, marks a significant breakthrough for the artist, merging myriad thoughts and emotions regarding traditional forms of contemporary Western art into a single canvas. This groundbreaking work melds both collage and trompe l'oeil venturing
beyond mere homage, offering a distinctly modern interpretation of CM Russell's legacy.
In this composition, six distinct works by Russell converge in a tapestry of artistic dialogue. Each piece is meticulously woven into the fabric of the painting, creating a unique and harmonious narrative. The artist's skillful manipulation of trompe l'oeil technique lends a mesmerizing depth to the scene, blurring the lines between reality and
illusion.
Central to the composition is a forced perspective likened to a theatrical stage that propels the viewer into a three-dimensional realm. Here, Russell's iconic figures and landscapes come to life with a newfound vibrancy, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the dynamic energy of the Western frontier.
Despite drawing inspiration from the past, "CM Russell in 3D" exudes a palpable sense of modernity. The juxtaposition of traditional imagery with contemporary sensibilities infuses the painting with a fresh perspective, breathing new life into Russell's timeless oeuvre.
Through this innovative approach, the artist transcends the confines of time, bridging the gap between past and present. "CM Russell in 3D" serves not only as a tribute to the relevance of traditional Western art, but witnesses the many contributions of contemporary modern arts.
My Palette
An artist's palette speaks volumes about a painter and the painting process. On the reverse of this painting you will discover a white Mylar sheet which was actually used as my palette for this painting.
I have never laid out my colors in an orderly fashion as most other painters do. Instead, I've always enjoyed the beauty and excitement of placing my colors in an unpredictable and spontaneous fashion.
