Urgent Warning | Kyril Bruce DeFoor

This is the second painting in the series called, "The West Takes the Stage".  As I've said, my artwork has been profoundly affected by great Western artists and I hope to present them in a new way to make them more accessible to new generations.

Historical artists such as Frederick Church and Fredrick Remington who are both represented in this depiction are brought together for the first time. Both of them are thrust onto the modern stage to act out a scene crafted in the mind of the viewer. 

My goal here was to illustrate the wild and unbroken times we find ourselves in.   Our contemporary society seems to be at odds with itself as both the horse and rider aptly reflect.  They each struggle to be in control while totally oblivious to the turmoil the earth itself is experiencing.

The most important artists in history have served as mirrors to society.  They reflect the essence of their time while also offering timeless insights into the human condition.  I believe this painting is that mirror and that if truly understood, can help create the impetus for positive change.

My Palette

An artist's palette speaks volumes about a painter and the painting process. On the reverse of this painting you will discover a clear Mylar sheet which was actually used as my palette for this painting. 

I have never laid out my colors in an orderly fashion as most other painters do.  Instead, I've always enjoyed the beauty and excitement of placing my colors in an unpredictable and spontaneous fashion.
